US Torchwood on FOX is Dead!

The Fox US Version of Torchwood is DEAD!

That's what The Hollywood Reporter is writing today. Apparently, it was a mutual decision between the BBC and Fox.

''BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format. We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.''

Now who are those channels? I don't see Torchwood going on any other main US channel except perhaps for SyFy. Or maybe even HBO.  But does it mean that in the possible scenario that the show doesn't get picked up by an American channel that Torchwood will die? or will the BBC take back the Doctor Who spinoff and give it a home again?

Jane Tranter, who is the BBC Worldwide executive, reiterated that a US version of Torchwood was still making progress, and that ''it's very much ongoing and very much alive.'' As well, she took the opportunity to calm the fears of many fans that were worried that an American version of Doctor Who would be developped.

Tranter said: ''It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time. There is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening.'' [The Hollywood Reporter]

This news scares me a bit and I really, really hope we haven't seen the last of Torchwood. It certainly doesn't bode well.

Thanks to Nancy for the heads up!
