See Kermit the Frog as the Eleventh Doctor!

This is just too darn cute I had to put it up here. It's a drawing of Kermit the frog from Jim Henson's The Muppets as Doctor Who's Eleventh Doctor by Deviant-art artist *mimi-na. He's basically called Eleventh Frog.

Enjoy!

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who just finished a first and very successful run as Sherlock Holmes in the Steven Moffat - Mark Gatiss co-created BBC series Sherlock (series 2 has been confirmed last week), made some very interesting revelations in regards to the Doctor Who role.

Steven Moffat on the 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special, Getting Michael Gambon, and Disinformation

Steven Moffat recently sat down with Premium Hollywood and opened up just a little tiny bit about a few small things regarding the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special that will air on Christmas day in the UK, and hopefully around the same date in North America.

The casting of Michael Gambon for the special certainly was a great casting coup, and when asked how he managed to get the great actor on board, Moffat said:

'Sherlock' Star Turned Down Role of the Doctor on 'Doctor Who'

Sherlock star, actor Benedict Cumberbatch, has revealed that he turned down the role of the Doctor on Doctor Who.

The Sun claims that Cumberbatch, who is getting rave reviews for is role of Sherlock Holmes in the re-invented series from showrunner guru Steven Moffat, was offered the iconic role when former Tenth Doctor, Scottish actor David Tennant, decided to leave the Tardis behind.

BBC Confirms Guest Stars for the Doctor Who Christmas Episode!

The BBC has issued a press release teasing the fans about what's coming up for the Christmas episode of Doctor Who.
Production starts today (Monday 12 July) on the 2010 Doctor Who BBC One Christmas Special in which the thrilling adventures of the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) will continue in a fun-filled and heartfelt festive story.

In the grand tradition of Doctor Who Christmas specials, this year the show has once again attracted stellar guest stars as veteran actor Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Singing Detective) and opera diva Katherine Jenkins, in her first acting role, join the Time Lord for what might be his most Christmassy adventure yet!
[BBC Press Office]

And so, Amy and Rory will be joining the Doctor in the Christmas fun, the first time since the 2005 Christmas episode The Christmas Invasion, which marked David Tennant's first episode as the Doctor.

The addition of Michael Gambon for the Christmas episode is an awesome casting coup, and I can't wait to see which character the actor will play. Apparently, he and Katherine Jenkins will play major roles in the special episode.

Doctor Who: Upcoming Weeping Angels Two-Parter Like ''Aliens''

According to Steven Moffat, if his first Weeping Angels episode Blink was more like Ridley Scott's Alien, then The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone can be compared to James Cameron's Aliens.

The upcoming two-parter will be much more action oriented than Blink was.

Doctor Who Series 5 the Eleventh Doctor's Theme

This is the official theme song for the Eleventh Doctor. It was apparently comfirmed by Doctor Who composer Murray Gold.

It's called ''Every Star, Every Planet'' and once again, Gold is giving us some of the most beautiful and iconic music for Doctor Who.

I always love his little musical themes for the different main characters. This man is a musical genius.

Enjoy!

Doctor Who: ''The Eleventh Hour'' Inside Trekker Review

The Dawn of an Era is upon us, but for the third time in 5 years, so is a new Doctor. And so the question was: will Doctor Eleven go down in history as a great Doctor or will we want to forget him as soon as the episode is over?

I was very excited to finally see what Steven Moffat had written as his first episode as the new Doctor Who show runner. I was also really looking forward to Matt Smith's first appearance in the role of the Time Lord. I had no real fear that Matt Smith would be good, but as a fan of David Tennant's Tenth Doctor, I was a bit worried as to how I would actually react to this new Doctor.

New Doctor Who Tonight: the Dawn of a New Era

On April 3 2010, the world will welcome the newest adventures of the newest Doctor. I am, of course, talking about Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor.

Although Matt has already made his first appearance as the Doctor in the last minutes of The End of Time which aired January 1st 2010, it will be the first time that we will properly see Doctor Eleven in action.

Matt Smith has big shoes to fill, and the question on every body's lips is : does he achieve that.

David Tennant is the most popular Doctor of all time

Smith is following David Tennant, who played the Time Lord for four years and is the most popular and well loved Doctor of all time. It's a huge and daunting task for the 27 year old actor who also happens to be the youngest man ever to play one of the most iconic Sci-Fi characters of all time.

Matt Smith is the youngest Doctor ever

Everyone should rest at ease as the general consensus seems to be that Matt Smith is quite good as the Eleventh Doctor. I myself am not overly worried about his performance, plus, from the tidbits I have seen, I have to say that I am mighty excited and looking forward to this new incarnation – at the same time I'm still mourning David Tennant's Tenth Doctor.

The Tenth Doctor's Regeneration scene was one of the saddest ever, with countless fans breaking down at his last words: ''I don't want to go'' - including me.

I loved David Tennant as the Doctor and will always see him as MY Doctor, much like many of you out there. But after the series took a year off after it's last airing in the summer of 2008, with nothing but the specials to wet our appetites in 2009, I am glad to return to the regular format of the Doctor Who Series. I have to say 2009 felt lonely and empty without it. It was a long wait.

Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor in tonight's first Series 5 episode ''The Eleventh Hour''. He's still wearing his Tenth Doctor outfit.

Now, not only do we have a new Doctor but we also have a new show runner, Steven Moffat, a new companion in Amy Pond, played by the lovely Karen Gillan, a new Tardis which is bigger on the inside than the former one (there is apparently more rooms, with even a library to be seen!), a brand new screwdriver, a new logo and a new theme song!

Everything is new.

But is everything new good? More importantly can it be great?

New Doctor, new Companion, new Tardis

I'm hoping it will. I'm hoping to be entertained and to be looking forward to tune in to the Doctor's adventures week after week for the next 13 ones. I have faith in Steven Moffat – who did give us some of the greatest Doctor Who stories of the Russell T. Davies era (The Empty Child, The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, Silence in the Library, Forests of the Dead and the scary Blink), I have faith in that new fresh faced young actor Matt Smith who now plays the Eleventh Doctor and I even have faith in Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond.

I'm ready to jump in - take me to the Tardis! Are you?

Doctor Who starts tonight in the UK on BBC ONE and BBC HD at 6:20pm and on April 17 in North America.

Matt Smith IS the Doctor! Doctor Who

Yesterday, some very, very lucky people (mainly journalists) got to see the first episode of Doctor Who series 5 aptly titled The Eleventh Hour.
This is a baptisme of fire for Matt Smith who at 27 is now the youngest actor ever to play the role of the Time Lord. The reviews are strongly positive and the concensus is that Matt Smith is not only good as the Doctor but that he IS the Doctor.
Digital Spy says that:
Matt Smith is awesome as The Doctor. He's funny, he's charming, he's clever, he is The Doctor. The episode is the perfect launch vehicle for him - daft alien threat aside - and it's both dark and comedic. Murray Gold's score is awesome.
Den of Geek claims:
So what about Matt Smith? The Doctor is still feeling the after-effects of the regeneration when we meet him, and that allows Moffat to shape the character a little as things go on. Smith's performance is really very confident too. His Doctor is clearly in the infancy of his story arc, yet we warmed to him quickly and easily. How will he fare when the threats against his character are ramped up? Perfectly well, we’d suggest, and the show looks like it’s going to benefit from having a regular companion too.

The Sun says:
Is the new kid on the Doc any good? Well yes, thank goodness. About Time, Lord ... first episodeThe Time Lord as played by youthful Matt Smith, 27, is still bonkers - but much less so than the version of predecessor David Tennant. His jokes are less laboured. And Matt's Doctor is definitely more "street" than any of the time travellers of the past. At one point in the first episode he declares "Who da man?" - proving his slang is up-to-date, even if his clothes are from 100 years ago. Amazingly, he already feels comfortable in the role - so much so that you get the strange feeling that the new Doctor IS Matt Smith

Even new showrunner Steven Moffat claimed that:
David was sort of neat and fastidious like a humming bird. Matt is gangling and shambling - he's like a terrible mess that somehow becomes elegant by magic, he said.
He brings back genuine madness to the role of the Doctor - Matt's Doctor is bonkers.

I think it's a safe bet to say that most of us wont be disappointed by Smith's interpretation of the Eleventh Doctor. I don't know about you but I'm really, really looking forward to the new series. Only a few weeks to go then, and in the words of Doctor Eleven: Geronimo!!!

Doctor Who: Karen Gillan on her love for Amy Pond

Photograph by Suki Dhanda

In a recent Guardian article actress Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond the newest Companion to the also brand new Doctor, has revealed a few things concerning her character and her relationship to the Doctor.

What she says about the series and Amy's relationship to the Doctor himself is this:

To be honest, I wasn't really a huge follower of Dr Who before I got this part. I mean I knew it was huge, but … I was nothing like my mum, who's a proper diehard Whovian. She's got a Tardis money-bag, and Dalek bubble-bath. But having read the first episode I was utterly smitten, and with the character. Amy's a sassy lady, funny and passionate, and her relationship with the doctor has a really interesting dynamic." She kisses him this series: does she love him? Karen (who is in real life in a relationship), answers carefully. "She has a love for him, a really deep love for him. But not romantic.

She also talks about Matt Smith, who plays the Eleventh Doctor, and about how she feels about her character:

It's been an education in itself to work with Matt, who's so endlessly inventive, bringing something new to it every day rather than falling into the easy default scared-face. That's one of the challenges; you're faced with life-threatening situations every episode, but you can't just widen your eyes all the time. Yes, this doctor is preeeetty good. As, I've said, is Amy, and she gets to wear all these small skirts, which I will admit was very cold, but also very cool. They originally wanted to put me in trousers, but I did say I'd like to wear a skirt because – you'll understand when you watch it. Actually I think I love Amy. I'm in love with her. I want to be her.

Please go here to read more of the article, where Karen Gillan also talks about her audition for Doctor Who and where she reveals a bit more about herself.

Brand New Doctor Who Promo Pic of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor

Tardis Base just posted a new Promo Pic of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor taken from SFX magazine.

I really, really like this picture. He just looks so young and innocent - funny considering the Doctor's age.

Matt Smith chose his own Doctor's costume on Doctor Who

Following in Christopher Eccleston's and David Tennant's footsteps, Matt Smith a.k.a Doctor Eleven, has helped pick up his Doctor ensemble which is made up of tweed jacket, shirt and bow tie, suspenders, and black boots.

About what he wears, the 27 year old actor said:

What's interesting about this particular Doctor's look is that it's going to constantly evolve. Steven [Moffat] is very keen that he's a man who gets up in the morning and wears clothes because it's cold.

For his Doctor, the defining element is his bow tie: If you look at every Doctor, every Doctor has something, and I have a bow tie.
As always with this show you're dealing with history, and you go, 'Oh, I can't have a scarf because Tom Baker had a scarf, I can't have a pair of converse...' but I'm pleased, because the costume has come out of my personality, and it feels right on my body and my frame.

Series 5 is set to air on Easter Weekend in the UK and on April 17 in North America.

And More Doctor Who Series 5 Pics Emerge!

Well, I just saw more pics of filming from the same Doctor Who episode that I posted about earlier today. You know, the one with the trolley?

The pics came from the great SFX magazine which shows the Doctor, played by Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith, playing Rugby, the European version of football.

At this point, I can only ask myself what the hell is going on in this episode???

Was Matt Smith destined to be The Doctor on Doctor Who?

Photo: Alisa Connan/ESQUIRE

The April Issue of Esquire magazine will have an interview with the Eleventh Doctor himself, 27 years old Matt Smith.

Seems that Matt Smith had all the signs that would lead him one day to play the larger-than life role of one of Science-Fiction's most beloved icons: The Doctor.

Apparently he had earned the nickname of ''Doctor Who'' at university because he was wearing a scarf that was similar to the one the fourth Doctor was wearing.

At university I had a big coloured scarf and people would often say, 'All right, Doctor Who?' And I thought, I rather liked that notion.

Also, his mother told him that he would be a perfect Doctor, one week before David Tennant announced his departure from the beloved role.

About the Doctor, Smith said: He's an intergalactic genius, a superhero-ish, mad, fumbling, bumbling science geek. He's everything you can pluck from any universe and put into him.

Smith also offered some thoughts as to why the Doctor is not a good lover of women, despite having several women around him and being in love with him. The actor explained that: It's because he's too busy. He finds humans fascinating, but imagine if you'd travelled round for 900-plus years on your own with this great weight behind you. He's an addict - if he stopped saving the world, he'd be in real trouble.

The interview will be in the April issue of Esquire magazine out on March 4th.

Rumours on the Doctor Who Series 5 Finale and Torchwood

The Daily Star reports that Doctor Who Series 5's last episode will have the Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith, battle Cybermen, Daleks and Sontarans, as well as other aliens, in what will also be a cliffhanger (something that hasn't been done before I believe).

Apparently, the aliens will be hell-bent on Earth's destruction and only the Doctor and his companion can stop them.

Apparently ''The producers wanted Matt to end his first season as the Time Lord with something explosive and exciting. And this fits the bill.''

“It’s got all the right elements for a great finale and plenty of opportunities for cliffhangers, with fans not knowing who survives.”

The series is still set to start in the Spring (I just wish they'd settle for a date already but the BBC has never been fast at giving information).

On the other hand, it appears that Torchood will return only on the net. Which I think would be a serious let down of the fans.

Still, take all this with a grain of salt.
