Doctor Who Christmas Special Title Revealed

Today, the BBC has revealed the title for the highly anticipated Doctor Who Christmas special that will air on December 25 in the UK and it's called . . .  A Christmas Carol!

OK, not too creative I must say but there you have it!

This is the BBC's press release:

Back in July, Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning, revealed the story will be, 'Doctor Who's clever twist on the much loved A Christmas Carol' and now the title reflects that! We can enjoy a preview of the adventure on Friday, 19 November on BBC One for Children in Need and then there's less than six weeks until the episode airs.

If you can't wait until then, watch BBC One on Friday because apart from the preview of A Christmas Carol you can find out what happened when two young fans of Doctor Who had their dream come true... It's a very special treat featuring Matt Smith and continues Doctor Who's long tradition of supporting Children in Need.

A Christmas Carol reunites Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and guest stars Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Singing Detective) and Katherine Jenkins. Right now we don't know much about the special, but earlier in the year, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, confirmed, 'Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything!'

We'll be bringing you more details as they emerge...

What do you think? Looking forward to Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol?

Supernatural's Mark Sheppard to guest-star on Doctor Who!

Seems like Mark Sheppard is in every Sci-Fi series to hit television these days. From Battlestar: Galactica, Chuck, Warehouse 13 and most recently as the demon Crawley on Supernatural.

Now word is that Sheppard is guest-starring on the upcoming series 6 of Doctor Who; it's believed he will appear in the two-parter series opener penned by Steven Moffat that will have the cast and crew partly filming the episode in the US this November.

First 2 episodes of Doctor Who series 6 to be filmed in the US + spoilers

And so it's official: The TARDIS will land in the good Ol' US of A to film parts of the first two episodes from series 6 of Doctor Who!

Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Artur Darvill, and the entire cast and crew will leave Wales around mid-November to film the opening episodes of Series 6 in Utah. Though it's not the first time a Doctor Who story has taken place in the US, it will be the first time the series is actually filmed there.

In 1996, Doctor Who: The Movie, which featured the Eight Doctor played by Paul McGann and whose story took place in San Francisco, was actually filmed in Canada.

Karen Gillan Reassures Fans: Matt Smith is NOT Leaving Doctor Who

Well all I can say is I told you so! I knew that that horrible 'Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who' rumour could only be full of bullocks untruths.

It's actress Karen Gillan herself, who plays the Doctor's companion Amy Pond, who confirmed the story as false.

Gillan told The Daily Telegraph: "Matt will be sticking around, I think those rumours were made up."

My sentiments exactly! Matt Smith is not about to depart the Doctor Who role for Hollywood just yet, though I know he has enough talent to make it out there.

Gillan also added that they are currently filming the Christmas episode that that the atmosphere on the set is "great."

BBC Confirms Guest Stars for the Doctor Who Christmas Episode!

The BBC has issued a press release teasing the fans about what's coming up for the Christmas episode of Doctor Who.
Production starts today (Monday 12 July) on the 2010 Doctor Who BBC One Christmas Special in which the thrilling adventures of the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) will continue in a fun-filled and heartfelt festive story.

In the grand tradition of Doctor Who Christmas specials, this year the show has once again attracted stellar guest stars as veteran actor Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Singing Detective) and opera diva Katherine Jenkins, in her first acting role, join the Time Lord for what might be his most Christmassy adventure yet!
[BBC Press Office]

And so, Amy and Rory will be joining the Doctor in the Christmas fun, the first time since the 2005 Christmas episode The Christmas Invasion, which marked David Tennant's first episode as the Doctor.

The addition of Michael Gambon for the Christmas episode is an awesome casting coup, and I can't wait to see which character the actor will play. Apparently, he and Katherine Jenkins will play major roles in the special episode.
