New Torchwood Magazine Cover Features Captain Jack and the American Flag!

This is the latest cover for Torchwood Magazine issue 23 coming out in the UK this thursday. The magazine features an article with creator and showrunner Russell T Davies, who talks about taking Torchwood to the US.

'Torchwood: The New World' - Russell T Davies Talks Captain Jack's Return, his Love Life, and More!

Russell T Davies made further revelations about Series 4 of Torchwood: The New World  - which doesn't start filming until next January - during the Television Critics Association fall press tour.

For one thing, according to Davies :

It's [the 10-part storyline] far more complicated than just a monster. I think it's a brilliant idea, and when you hear it, it will make sense and you'll see how big it is. It could have filled 20 hours. It's a big 10-hour story.

Torchwood Series 4 Title and Info Revealed! Plus some News regarding the Return of James Marsters

Torchwood creator and showrunner Russell T Davies and executive producer Julie Gardner provided some fresh information regarding the upcoming series 4 of Torchwood this past Saturday (August 7).

'Torchwood' Series 4 Writers Revealed and I'm Impressed!

The Chicago Tribune has a story on Torchwood Series 4 and it reveals the names of four other writers that will join Russel T Davies in penning the 10-part series that will begin filming early in 2011, and will air the following summer on Starz.

Along with Russel T Davies, who will pen several of the episodes as befit the showrunner, the new writers are:

James Marsters Plans to Return to Torchwood!

Speaking recently to Io9, actor James Marsters - best known as the awesome vampire Spike on both Buffy and Angel but most recently as Brainiac on Smallville and Barnabas Greeley on Caprica - mentions his desire to return to Torchwood for the upcoming fourth series especially now that it will mostly be filmed in the US.

Marsters reveals his plans to get Russel T Davies to get him in Torchwood and says that:

Co-Written by actor John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness himself) and his sister Carol E. Barrowman, and illustrated by renowned artist Tommy Lee Edwards, the first issue of the Torchwood comic will be available first exclusively to the San Diego International Comic-Con 2010 attendees.

Doctor Who - Matt Smith and Karen Gillan Get TV Choice Awards Nominations

The two Doctor Who stars have been nominated in the best acting category with Matt Smith scoring a best actor nomination and Karen Gillan the best actress one.

The show received a nomination for best family drama.

Torchwood: Los Angeles

It's not much, but it's a bit of news for Torchwood fans!

According to Ausiello, a good chunk of Series 4 of the Starz/BBC produced Torchwood will film on location in Los Angeles! I wonder if Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) will shed a few clothes while there . . . maybe get a sun tan?

John Barrowman Says No Torchwood Without Captain Jack

In an article published today on Airlock Alpha, John Barrowman has apparently said that nothing official has been revealed to him concerning the status of Torchwood as of yet. From his comments, however, it even seems unofficial that the series is USA bound.

News on the Filming of Torchwood Season 4

Firefox News is reporting that filming has recently wrapped for what is called Torchwood: Season 4. Belief is that filming was for the pilot and not the complete series yet.

We know that Russell T. Davies is working on was has been dubbed Torchwood USA and that it has been picked up by FOX. Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner - both BBC veterans - are executive producing it. So far, so good.

Captain Jack should Remain Omnisexual on US Torchwood

The Ausiello Files just posted an exclusive story on John Barrowman and his most famous character, Captain Jack Harkness of Doctor Who and Torchwood fame.

Barrowman claims that:

I hope wherever [the franchise] goes that the show stays the same.

The last thing I would want would be for Jack to become this heterosexual, straight hero. He’s an omnisexual guy. He likes men, women, aliens, whatever. I think we should continue going down that route.

As for the US version of the show, the actor has no information yet other than Fox has commissionned a script from Russell T. Davies and that he would reprise his role as Captain Jack.

John Barrowman is Unsure about Torchwood's Future

A few months after claiming that Torchwood series 4 was a go, John Barrowman is now unsure of what is happening with Torchwood and whether it'll be back.

He recently told Digital Spy that:

I don't know if we're gonna be filming Torchwood.

I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard anything about what you're talking about! I only know that I would - at the drop of a hat - love to do Torchwood again. I would love to do more than five episodes. But if we're only going to do five episodes, I'm happy with that.

The actor has no information whatsoever concerning the show but he would love to do another one: I love the character, I love the show, and I would love to do it again. But I don't have any other information - I'm so sorry!

On my part I really don't understand the BBC at all.

The Torchwood Mini-Series ''Children of Earth'' was a critical and commercial success yet they can't decide what to do with the show? I'm disappointed by their attitude also regarding the fans since they seem to be determined to keep everyone in the dark.

All we have now are rumours, such as the series being made for the web only. The only concrete news we have is that Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner are working on an American version of the show. Wether it will be a remake of the show or a continuation set in America (since the Hub in Cardiff has been destroyed) and will star the remaining living members of Torchwood, including Barrowman's Captain Jack, remains to be seen.

Torchwood to go USA!!

FOX is developping a US version of Torchwood, the sucessful Doctor Who spinoff!

The original creating team of Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner is on board the project and apparently the sorylines will be more global rather than UK based.

The project is from the BBC Worldwide Production and Davies will be writing the scripts.

It also appears that some of the Torchwood cast - which now limits itself to John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper may star in the US version. Most likely Barrowman will be the ideal candidate.

In my opinion, this is most likely a whole new Torchwood Team based in the USA and definitely not a remake. Captain Jack Harkness may now be saving the world from somewhere in North America. All I can say is WOW!!! This is Big news.

Russell Tovey to Be on Torchwood?

Digital Spy reports on an article published in Doctor Who Magazine #417 in which John Barrowman has hinted at the possibility of having Midshipman Frame, who last appeared in the Doctor Who special The End of Time, on Torchwood.

What I'd love, what I think would be great, is if Midshipman Frame became Jack's companion in Torchwood. He's the perfect companion for Jack.

It's funny because Russell Tovey also mentioned something similar in his interview and I talked about it here. Is it possible that he will be a member of the future Torchwood team? The actor doesn't seem to shy away from taking many roles at once.

John Barrowman Confirms the Return of Torchwood

Blogtor Who just posted that John Barrowman confirmed the return of Torchwood in a 13 episode format!!

This is awesome news indeed. I loved Children of Earth (minus the death of Ianto Jones) and I'm glad to hear about the return of the series.

John Barrowman Meets Matt Smith and Cheats on David Tennant - Sort Of

The Stage has an excerpt of an exclusive interview with John Barrowman A.K.A. Captain Jack Harkness of Torchwood and Doctor Who fame.

The interview will appear in print next week, as well as in podcast, but they wanted to offer a glimpse of the interview on their website. In it, John Barrowman discusses meeting the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smitt, and how he felt about it.

Barrowman says:

I have met Matt. I was doing my publicity for Tonight’s the Night and Matt came in to meet the whole publicity department at the BBC. He walked over to me and went, “Captain Jack!” and we shook hands.

He actually said, “I’d love for our characters to cross paths,” and I said, “That’s really nice to hear. I’m really chuffed that you would say that.”

We sat down and talked for about 15 minutes and then he had to go off and do his thing. I turned to the publicist I work with at the BBC and I said, “I just feel like I’ve had an affair — I feel like I’ve just cheated on David behind his back!”

Then I told David and he was like, “You turncoat.” But Matt will be brilliant. Like anything, it’s different, it’s a new energy, he’s younger, he’ll bring a new twist to it.

The article also reveals that Barrowman will discuss season 4 of Torchwood, his upcoming appearances on Doctor Who and possibly having a role on Desperate Housewives.

Captain Jack Harkness Will Be Back on Torchwood and Doctor Who

After the events of Torchwood: Children of Earth, some people may wonder whether or not Captain Jack Harkness will ever return. Jack left the planet to wander amongst the stars after the death of his beloved Ianto Jones (who's death had fans up in arms), and of his own grand-son whom he had sacrificed in order to save all of Earth's children.

However, it makes no doubt that Jack's return to the Blue Planet and to Torchwood could be imminent if the BBC finally commissions a fourth series.

Part of an exclusive interview with Russell T. Davies for the seventh issue of Torchwood Magazine was recently posted on Doctor Who Hideout. The interview excerpt says:

''I could write you scene one of series four right now, I know exactly how to pick it up. I've got a shape in mind, and I've got stories. I know where you'd find Gwen and Rhys, and their baby, and Jack, and I know how you'd go forward with a new form of Torchwood.''

After almost the entire team was decimated in season 2 and during the events of Children of Earth, it is clear that Torchwood will have to reinvent itself, plus, with the Hub gone, the new Torchwood team will need a new base of operation.

In the meanwhile, it is certain that Jack will show up in the last episodes of Doctor Who. In a recent article by Comic Book Resources, which features a Roundtable Interview with David Tennant and Julie Gardner, David Tennant says:

“Jack will come back again, bit more of Donna, that's never a bad thing,” Tennant added. “And we can all say now that John Simm's in it. We're admitting that now, I think we were pretending for a while. Having John back was great. And Timothy Dalton. That's been one of the eternal joys, that's been highly exciting, is the guest characters that join us.”

For those who miss the immortal Captain and former Companion to the Doctor, this is good news. Also, the Jack Harkness that travels with the Doctor is always a bit different than Torchwood Leader Jack. He's always more relaxed and laid back. More carefree when he travels with the Doctor. Plus the camaradery between John Barrowman and David Tennant is amazing. It will be a pleasure to see them both together again before my beloved Ten regenerates.
